Trees talk. Their roots are connected through an underground network of fungi, nicknamed the “Wood Wide Web.” Scientists call these mycorrhizal networks that allows them to share resources and distress signals with each other. In exchange, the fungi consume about 30 percent of the sugar that trees photosynthesize from sunlight.
