Fewer households are purchasing print news publications, and expenditure on newspapers fell from £4.45 billion in 2005 to under £2.8 billion in 2020. National newspaper circulation in the UK has been declining for years and fell below one million copies in 2020 even among leading brands like The Daily Mail. Based on a survey at the beginning of 2021, The Mail on Sunday had the greatest reach at 42 percent of all readers. Meanwhile, The Observer ranked second with a readership share of 29 percent, followed by The Sun On Sunday with 23 percent.
