One of the earliest psychological experiments conducted was The Marshmallow Experiment where children were presented a piece of marshmallow and told that they would receive a second piece if they could wait for 15 minutes without eating the first one. A 2018 replicate experiment with a bigger sample size debunked the original and proved that the ability to wait for a second marshmallow does not depend on willpower alone but more on the economic background and social status of participants.
