Have you tried picking ampalaya or bitter melon/gourd using a hook attached to the end of a pole? 🤣 It was my first time actually to try yesterday, for its vine climbed up the jackfruit tree. It was planted by my mom in a small styro plastic box and we did not expect for it to grow at first for it was neglected and turned yellow already. Ampalaya or bitter melon/gourd with a scientific name of Momordica charantia is a tropical and subtropical vine of the family Cucurbitaceae and widely grown in Asia, Africa, and the Caribbean. It's edible fruits come in many varieties and differ in the shape and bitterness. Bitter melon/gourd is one of my favorites since I was young and I don't know why, when many of us even adults don't like the taste? I just love to eat it as raw salads, or stir-fried. Maybe because I saw my parents eating it and it's crunchy if it's a raw salad. And it's rich in vitamin C for disease prevention, bone formation, and wound healing especially if you're diabetic for it contains insulin-like compound. It's also high in vitamin A a fat-soluble vitamins that promotes skin health and proper vision. (www.healthline.com) And did you know that ampalaya fruit with darker green color is more bitter but healthier than the pale one? And I don't know why people find my cooked bitter melon/gourd not so bitter even if it's in dark green color. I'm not rubbing it with salt or squeezing it before cooking for it's one way of getting rid the bitterness but really don't know haha. So eat bitter and be better and sweet always for it's good for health as long as you eat it in moderation. And remember health is wealth and fame, money, cryptos are useless if you're weak or sick.
