The world's largest wooden xylophone!
Just imagine that we are walking through a forest when out of nowhere a music sounds, one of Bach's soothing melodies in the distance. Well, this really happens and it is one of the magical scenarios created by creative director Morihiro Harano and his team at Mori Inc.
In a forest in Japan, called Kyushu, you can see a giant wooden xylophone, which plays a Bach melody. This curious instrument is composed of hundreds of wooden pieces of different sizes, which play a different note each.
How can we play it and sound that soothing melody?
Well, a ball is placed at the beginning of the xylophone that descends at a slight angle. But, in this way the ball rolls freely downward hitting each wooden panel and playing the notes of Bach's Cantata 147.
It is very important to note that these beautiful sounds are completely authentic and unreleased. We will be able to hear the raw recording of the wooden instrument and the natural environment surrounding it. Isn't that something completely incredible and ingenious?
Although, let's not forget that a single note out of time could ruin the tempo of the piece, which made the construction of this instrument a really complicated and precise feat.
Actually, I had no idea that such a beautiful yet complicated creation could be observed in Japan. It is as if music and nature were one and made the best melody of all, which is surely very relaxing. I must admit that I hope to visit this forest someday, to go into it and find the unique and indescribable sound that this great xylophone makes.
