An umbrella is a very necessary device these days. And did you know who invented that device, so you probably guess. The Chinese were the first (1,700 years ago) to make their umbrellas waterproof and use them as protection from the rain. To make them impermeable, they coated them with wax. From China, silk traders carried the umbrella to Assyria, India and Persia. It was brought from Persia to Egypt, where, as everywhere in the East, it was a sign of position and reputation.
