Or you could be the piece of chalk that he’s wearing down to a tiny nub. In order to display his plan to those who can’t see him, he might use you in ways that you didn’t expect. Paul was begging for relief from the “thorn” in his side. There is some speculation as to the nature of this affliction. Regardless of what it was, God declined because he was using the situation for his own glory; he told Paul, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” Or more succinctly, “No.” God could erase all the work in your life and start drawing again. He could wear you down to nothing. He could turn you over and start drawing on the back or using a paintbrush. He will do whatever he wants to do with you—you are his. The purpose of your life, once you’ve been bought with the blood of Jesus, is to be used to bring you and others closer to God. You could be a thorn. But you might be a rose. Either way, being used for his glory is glorious.
