“Don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.” (James‬ ‭1:22‬) Let me put it this way: God doesn’t care about your agreement, he cares about your action. I’ve spoken to crowds where it’s easy to get amens and hallelujahs, but the people still go home and kick their dogs. Well, maybe not literally because I can’t see what goes on behind closed doors, but it’s clear by the ugly looks and sharp words that remain when I meet them again that attitudes haven’t changed. Some Christians have refined hypocrisy to an art form; I can understand why Jesus preferred eating with sinners. So here is the question: Do you want to be authentic or just another pretender? Anyone can hate. Anyone can lie. Anyone can seek revenge. It takes a special person to love and forgive—it takes a Christian. A real one. I want you to focus today on changing one thing in your life, just one. I can’t tell you which one because every person is different; each of us has unique challenges or weaknesses. Maybe you don’t even know where there is room for improvement. But God does. Ask him to show you, but then act on it. Don’t be only a hearer; be a doer.
