“Never pay back evil with more evil. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable.” (Romans ‭12:17‬) If you are a child of God you are a winner. Your victory is in Jesus and no series of setbacks or combination of attacks can take that away. So there is no reason to feel a need to retaliate when trials come. The one who does evil is already under a curse. To seek vengeance, to return evil for evil, only compounds the issue. God is capable of dealing punishment to those who deserve it, but he also offers forgiveness while there is still time. Look for ways to return evil with good. Find the little speck of God in them that he put there when he created them in his image. It’s easier to have compassion when you realize the other person is under attack, too. Will we choose to model our Savior or our tormentor? Will we demonstrate love or hate? Will we be honorable or dishonorable? For the true Christian, the choice is clear.
