“If people crush underfoot all the prisoners of the land, if they deprive others of their rights in defiance of the Most High, if they twist justice in the courts—doesn’t the Lord see all these things?” (Lamentations‬ ‭3:34-36‬) I believe most of you would aggressively defend an attack on your children; it’s one area where everyone would agree violence is acceptable, even necessary. God feels the same way. We are his creation, we were designed and birthed from his mind and in his timing—none of us were the result of unwanted or accidental pregnancies; we are his children and we are deeply loved. Keep these thoughts in the front of your brain as you consider the reality of hell. A lot of people don’t like the idea of a loving God who could send anyone to hell. But he doesn’t glibly flick people over the edge of the abyss as they deny him. He is nearly as traumatized as we are by a future that includes the loss of even one child. This is why he showed us such great compassion and mercy; this is why he sent Jesus to the cross in our place—in fact it’s God coming himself in the form of a man to prevent more of us from dying without hope! He will avenge the innocent by punishing terribly the evil. But until that moment they are his precious children. He implores us to love our enemies, to pray for those who persecute us, for one reason: that their souls might be saved from his righteous but awful judgment. See your opponent today in a different light, bring them before the Lord in your heart even as you prepare a defense, because their day is coming. Your prayer may be the only thing between them and eternal damnation, and God wants you to help him save them. You have more power than you know.
