“Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes.” (Psalms‬ ‭37:7‬) I have to admit that I get anxious sometimes when I read the news and see what politicians get away with. It seems like there is nothing they aren’t willing to do, no breach of ethics that is too wide. I start to fret. Then I have to go to the Word and pore over what God has to say about all of this mess that we’ve gotten ourselves into. After all, the voting public puts these politicians into office. It’s our fault that we can’t or won’t demand better options during the campaign cycles. But our energies are better spent on praying for the ones we have while we make better plans for the next round. We can’t bury our heads in the sand and expect change to come about on its own. In the meantime, though, God is awake and aware of what evil people do—and they will not miss their opportunity to repent or be held accountable. Just like us. The fact that we’ve already met Jesus and they might never, is the reason why we must pray. Regardless of how bad things get I will never wish the judgment of God on anyone.
