“Now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.” (Romans‬ ‭5:11‬) Most of us have experienced the feeling of not fitting in, whether it’s going to a new school, a new job, or even meeting a girlfriend’s or boyfriend’s family for the first time. They are all familiar with each other, you are the outsider—it’s awkward and you don’t want to say or do anything that will make you look stupid. Some people call it walking on eggshells, and I guess that’s a pretty good analogy. But that will never happen around God. I want you to really grab hold of this critical piece of your identity that Paul spells out so clearly in this verse: you are a friend of God! You belong. He wants you in the room and at the table. If you bump into him he won’t take offense or shove you away, he will put both arms around you and squeeze you closer. The things you’ve done that would rightly embarrass you in front of him and everyone else you meet have been taken away by Jesus. You have a new relationship with God that doesn’t include any record of wrongs. No ancient history is going to be dragged out to shame you, because it’s been completely removed. Friends don’t look for ways to make you uncomfortable. Friends look for ways to make you happy. Friends make you feel welcome. God is your friend. ❤️❤️❤️
