“If you love only those who love you, why should you get credit for that? Even sinners love those who love them!” (Luke‬ ‭6:32) We all know the passages in which Jesus tells us to love our enemies. That is a challenge, but I want to propose to you that loving our friends isn’t always the easiest thing to do and can offer its own set of challenges. I have a tendency to take my friends for granted—I assume their love for me will remain constant and I don’t always act in a way that deserves the loving treatment I have come to expect. Let’s not become complacent. Let’s actively love those who love us. As the verse says, “Even sinners love those who love them.” Sometimes I’m not even a good sinner. In the process of loving your enemies, let a little bit of the effort spill over into caring for your friends; maintaining these most-important relationships can be the difference between a bad day and a less bad day. Love your friends.
