“Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.” (Psalms‬ ‭46:10‬) It’s a good day to remember that God is aware of world conditions. There are times when I am appalled at what I see and wonder how God can put up with the antics of men, the wickedness, the total disregard for their fellow man, let alone be the Creator of them. “Be still.” He knows. Faith means we believe in his holiness even when we can’t see evidence of it—at least that’s what we claim; sometimes my faith gets weak, I get tired of trusting, waiting on God to act or fulfill a promise he made, as if my schedule is the one he checks before making his decisions. But he doesn’t need faith to believe in our sin, he can just look. So if he knows the depths of our evil, why doesn’t he do something about it? He did. In between the lines of this conversation I can hear Jesus asking, “Hey, what about me?” The consequences of our actions were poured out on him. And in faith we believe that it won’t be poured out on us, on those who believe in him. God says he “will be” honored; it’s future tense. He knows he’s not honored now. He’s waiting for more people to choose sides, and some may be right on the brink. It’s hard to wait with him because we don’t have his perspective or his patience. But when I look at the ridiculously hateful crimes happening almost everywhere, all the time, that are deserving of the most severe punishment, I have to thank God that he didn’t decide to stop waiting the minute before I believed.
