“Your throne, O Lord, has stood from time immemorial. You yourself are from the everlasting past.” (Psalms‬ ‭93:2‬) When you ask for advice about a really serious matter, you want it from someone with experience—not too many people are looking for guidance or direction from a rookie. So why wouldn’t we come to God first with all of our complications? I’ve watched as friends gather together discussing very weighty dilemmas and they will frequently come up with hypothetical solutions—like winging it is a good option. God must be sitting in heaven, one elbow on his knee with his chin resting in the palm of that hand, the other drumming his fingers on the arm of the throne. “I’m waiting.” Does God roll his eyes as we constantly ignore his obvious help? He has seen every situation you can imagine and countless others that you can’t. There is no scenario that will surprise him. Read the history of how he handled all kinds of troubles in the Bible. Pray! Ask him what he would do with your problem. He’s been around the block a couple of times. His counsel is good.
