“Sin whispers to the wicked, deep within their hearts. They have no fear of God at all. In their blind conceit, they cannot see how wicked they really are. Everything they say is crooked and deceitful. They refuse to act wisely or do good. They lie awake at night, hatching sinful plots. Their actions are never good. They make no attempt to turn from evil.” (Psalms 36:1-4) They say you can’t beat City Hall, the idea that when all the forces are stacked against you, you cannot win. Whoever “they” are, they don’t know God. All of these observations by the psalmist are correct and evil certainly seems powerful, but it lives on a short leash. God, in his sometimes confusing wisdom, has permitted evil—and those who love to do evil—to survive and even to thrive. But at the end of this psalm the writer concludes: “Look! Those who do evil have fallen! They are thrown down, never to rise again.” It’s just a matter of time. #Jesus #wisdom #justice
