“I take joy in doing your will, my God, for your instructions are written on my heart.” (Psalms‬ ‭40:8‬) We talk about the differences between Old and New Testament, the law written on stone tablets and then mercy and forgiveness demonstrated by the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross—hard versus soft. But we can’t overlook the power of the Holy Spirit. And the fact that God is the same throughout the ages; he never changes. This verse pulled from a psalm written by David shows us the consistency of his love. Sometimes I speak of the words of God “resonating” in our souls. This is what I mean, as David poetically describes them being written on his heart. When you’re living in the will of God it just feels right. Peace and joy are constants, too, just like his presence. Even during the worst of times the music in your heart can play. Paul and Silas were singing in chains! What’s happening on the outside will have less influence on your day if you stay tuned to what’s happening on the inside.
