“Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.” (1 Corinthians‬ ‭13:7‬) Too many relationships are built on emotion or attraction—a one-night stand that turns into wedding vows. Sure, they can last, but with a tremendous amount of hard work and loads of unnecessary heartache. Better to consider the long game when dabbling in love. Will you love when hope seems to die, when “every circumstance” becomes a daily event? Love is not for the fainthearted. Depicted with beautiful red hearts on greeting cards and floral bouquets, maybe, but likely to be broken as surely as the sun rises. Will you love, then? Jesus is the model, who loved us—always loyal, a selfless love committed even unto death—“while we were yet sinners.” When we were failing him; when we had nothing to return; when we didn’t even acknowledge his existence. That’s love. That’s the kind of love that never fails. Will you love like that?
