“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.” (Matthew‬ ‭5:14‬) There is a woman who occasionally stands at an intersection on a road near our house, holding a sign that says if you don’t believe in Jesus and turn from your sins you will go to hell. And she’s usually hollering at the top of her lungs. She is right. But is she effective? Jesus never made a spectacle of himself as he was sharing the message of salvation. And he never yelled at anyone unless you count his arguments with the religious leaders who were oppressing the people. Are your actions—your efforts at evangelism—drawing people to God or repelling them? I am in agreement with the things this lady is saying, but I turn up my radio and look the other way when I drive by; I’m embarrassed for her and her flavor of the Gospel. Jesus continued the example in this passage with the illustration of a lamp on a stand and he encourages us to let our good deeds shine out for all to see. I believe a candle is more attractive to the lost than a flamethrower. #share #shine
