Today is my baby boy's name day. We celebrated yesterday because today his grandmother and dad are also working.
I know names aren’t celebrated in many countries, so maybe it might be weird for you. A name day is a smaller event than a birthday, the celebrant usually only gets small gifts. Every day of the year is namedays, every day is someone else's day. Bence Day is August 23, this day all the boys and men who are called Bence celebrate.
The names are visible to everyone on the calendars. It’s also different from a birthday because people who aren’t so close to us know when we’re celebrating. This is why celebrating the name day is more common in the workplace, schools, and other communities than celebrating the birthday.
So yesterday Bence also received gifts and cake. Anyway, it’s not customary to celebrate the name day with a cake, but his grandmother ordered him a little cake from the local patisserie. The patisserie staff also thought the cake was definitely made for a birthday, so they put a small marzipan sign on it with the inscription "happy birthday." I smiled when I saw it.
In addition to the cake, Bence's grandmother also brought him clothes and a toy bus. The bus also plays music and lights up.
Bence has a lot of toys, seriously. That’s why I just decided not to buy him a hundredth toy car for him. Instead, I bought him paint, pencils, erasers, brushes, and things like that.
Many people think that a child should definitely buy toys as gifts. But why? He has everything. I think we’re going to have a great time creating, and so Bence can develop his dexterity and creativity as well.
Bence was very happy with all the gifts, the cake was very delicious, so overall we spent a super afternoon together.
It is so beautiful that you embrace you culture and we have naking ceremony too, it is actually very important for both baby and the parents and is celebrated in a huge way... lot of prayers and food :)
