Hahnemann has given a mysterious explanation in this case. He believed that homeopathic medicine had a kind of 'spirit-like power'. When an ingredient was routinely diluted with alcohol or water, it would enter the substance. Hahnemann was the first to say that an herbal substance must be a medicine because of its intrinsic power. No substance will be recognized as a medicine unless it has general medicinal properties, unless its internal potency is developed. When an object develops its internal capacity and is applied to a healthy human body and its medicinal properties are revealed, it will be considered as medicine. The process of developing the internal capacity of an object in this way is called dynamization. Medicine is the source of energy in homeopathy. When a drug substance is fortified by developing its internal capacity, it will be converted into a drug. When this drug is applied to the patient's body, it will be considered as a cure. In this way many common non-medicinal substances are also being converted into medicine in homeopathy and used as a cure for the patient.

• Does a patient know exactly what medicine is being given to him?

It actually depends a lot on the doctor or the person practicing homeopathy. However, most patients do not know exactly what medicine they are taking. And in pharmacies, homeopathic medicines are only identified by their Latin names. Critics of homeopathy, however, have repeatedly claimed that the medicine given to a patient should include the German name (perhaps English in other countries) so that the patient understands what he is taking as medicine.

Despite all this, Ayurvedic, Unani and Homoeopathic medicine are gaining popularity along with the traditional medical system in the country.

According to the Ministry of Health, 278 allopathic medicine manufacturers in the country now produce medicines and raw materials worth about Tk 15,619 crore a year. Besides, 266 Unani, 205 Ayurvedic, 79 Homoeopathic and 32 Herbal medicine manufacturers of the country produce medicines worth around Tk 850 crore. Looking at the market, it is understood that the demand for these medical systems is increasing.

In the United States, these drugs are concentrated from vegetable or common chemicals, and physicians dilute them as needed, as directed in the guidebook. There are many books on homeopathy in Bengali and this treatment is being done in the country on the basis of these. Recently, a number of homeopathy colleges have been established for formal education in cities and towns of the country.

It is true that with the advancement of science in the present age, many medicines made from medicinal plant ingredients are making effective contribution in the field of allopathic medicine as well as in the treatment of diseases. However, the real medicine is not being implemented here due to the fraudulent drug manufacturers and fake Kabirajs of Unani and Ayurvedic industries.

There are more fraudsters than the real organization. There are five hundred Unani and Ayurvedic institutions blacklisted by the Department of Drug Administration, who are cheating the public one after another. These fraudulent companies, which manufacture medicines for all complex diseases, have been trading Unani and Ayurvedic medicines all over the country, including the capital, year after year.

According to Section 14 of the Drugs Ordinance, 1982, advertisements for the marketing of any type of drugs are strictly prohibited and punishable, but these blacklisted companies have long been carrying out advertisements in various national dailies without paying any attention to the drug administration. Among the registered companies, the medicines of 20 companies are of good quality.

• So what are the others doing?

Inferior people give birth to inferior offspring and, thus, propagate their inferiority attracted by these attractive advertisements, less educated and uneducated people are being deceived every day. A network of these fraudsters has been set up across the capital. As soon as you go out on the streets, you can see that its members are attracting people by distributing small cards and leaflets. Only the drug administration can find a better way to control and free the general public from these fraudsters. Essential medicines are considered essential for the treatment of diseases. Medicines are products of a certain chemical quality, made artificially or collected from natural sources.
