The global payment giant #Mastercard has filed 15 new trademark applications related to #cryptocurrencies, fintech and #mutaverse technologies. According to trademark lawyer Mike Kondoudis, the company's requests indicate that it plans to host multimedia files accompanied by non-interchangeable tokens (#NFT), create a payment processing system and e-commerce transactions in the metaverse, as well as a platform for trading #crypto assets. Condudis' data show that Mastercard's application includes trademarks for downloadable multimedia files containing images, text, audio and video authenticated using NFT, as well as e-commerce software that will allow electronic business transactions in the metaverse. In addition, the firm has applied for virtual credit, debit and prepaid cards, as well as for the possibility of processing payments using digital card data in the metaverse. Mastercard has also registered trademarks for performances in the metaverse and for online communities related to digital assets. Kondudis notes that the number of trademark applications filed this year in the field of NFT exceeded the total number of those for the past year. Since the beginning of 2022, 1967 such applications have already been submitted, and for the whole of 2021 — 1965. In 2020, there were only 23 such applications.
