The #Portuguese government has proposed a new tax policy on cryptocurrencies, which should come into force within the framework of the national budget in 2023. The document on macroeconomic strategy and fiscal policy states that Portugal will levy a tax of 28% on capital gains from digital currencies received during the year. In addition, the country's authorities plan to introduce a 4% tax on any transactions with cryptocurrencies, and to levy a stamp duty. The initiative is aimed at equating the #cryptocurrency industry with others and laying the foundation for further work with it. Currently, 28% tax is the standard capital gains tax in Portugal. While the bill is under consideration. Back in May, the country's #finance minister Fernando Medina said that Portugal would have its own tax policy regarding cryptocurrencies. However, Congress rejected a proposal to impose an income tax on digital currencies. Now Portugal is a favorable place not only for users of digital currencies, but also for people engaged in ordinary business, since the country offers flexible visa and immigration opportunities, as well as a sparing tax policy.
