The Bitfinex cryptocurrency exchange has contributed $23.7 million as a commission for sending 100 thousand USDT tokens on the Ethereum blockchain, The Block draws attention to. The transaction was made today at 14: 10 Moscow time. Its sender was one of the main Bitfinex wallets, and the recipient was the wallet of the Deversifi non-custodial exchange. Previously, it was called Ethfinex and separated from the main company in 2019. The operation was carried out using the new EIP-1559 standard, in which the user, in addition to the basic commission set by the protocol, can pay an additional fee to the miner to speed up processing. Of the total amount, about $25 was burned as a base commission, and the remaining part became a reward for the miner. The transaction was added by an unknown miner, one of the ten largest in terms of the number of blocks extracted over the past 7 days. The technical director of Bitfinex, Paolo Ardoino, gave the following explanation of the events from Deversifi: "On September 27, at 11:10 UTC, a deposit transaction was made using a hardware wallet from the main Deversifi user interface with an excessively high gas cost. Deversifi is investigating the incident to find out the reasons. The assets of Deversifi clients are not in danger. This is an internal problem that Deversifi itself will work on solving. Operations are not affected." The explanation raised new questions, since the transaction was carried out from one of the well-known Bitfinex wallets, in which the exchange stores about $2 billion in ETH and ERC20 tokens, and not from the Deversifi wallet, as the publication suggests. Ardoino refrained from personal comments. Deversifi did not publish any messages on its blog for two years, until 4 days ago it announced the launch of a bridge for instant transfer of USDT between its wallets and Bitfinex. #Cryptocurrency
