The Wikimedia Foundation, which supports #Wikipedia, closes its BitPay account and announces that it stops accepting donations in cryptocurrency (#BTC and #ETH) based on feedback from its community. Recall that #Wikimedia is an open source online encyclopedia, and #BitPay is a cryptocurrency payment service that he used as a partner. Lisa Seitz-Gruwell, the foundation's chief development specialist, said that Wikimedia has decided to stop directly accepting cryptocurrencies as a means of donation. In particular, the BitPay account is being closed, which will make it impossible to directly accept #cryptocurrency as a donation method from companies and individuals. In 2021, only $130,000 worth of donations were made in cryptocurrency, which is 0.08% of the total income of the fund. This is a very small amount. Thus, it is extremely unlikely that the fund will suffer financially after the recent decision.
