On Friday, May 20, the second largest cryptocurrency by market #capitalization, #Ethereum (ETH), fell below $2,000 as the price of bitcoin dropped back into the $29,000 range. As indicated in the tweet of the analytical platform Glassnode, the number of unprofitable Ethereum addresses reached a 2-year high of 33,403,723,452. The graph they compiled shows that the number of unprofitable addresses began to grow at the beginning of 2022. The market is trying to digest the aggressive approach of the Federal Reserve System (#FRS) to curb inflation by raising interest rates. The prices of risky assets have been extremely volatile throughout the year, and last week the price of #ETH reached $1800, which is the lowest since July 2021. Usually, Ethereum prices follow the movement of the bitcoin price, however, a large-scale software update called The Merge is likely to weaken this binding. On the evening of May 21, the price of Ethereum fluctuated around $ 1985, without showing significant daily and weekly deviations with a market capitalization of $ 239.9 billion (CoinGecko source).
