They Only Trust Each Other

If you are updated about the political news going on from the last month until now, you probably know about the Senate hearings about the PSDBM - DOH - Pharmally Controversy. I don't want to butt in as much as possible, because I'm afraid of getting accused of libel. I just want to share my little observations about it. The next statements that follow these are only my opinions.

The big question in the Senate hearing now is, "Why did PSDBM procure face shields from Pharmally which is not a manufacturer while they can procure it from other Filipino manufacturers who joined the bidding?"

As far I know, Senate can't get a good answer from PSDBM yet, and their excuse is always the Bayanihan Law which they said allowed them to procure from any source because of the lack of supply. However, this was contradicted by the Filipino Manufacturer who also joined the bidding and lost millions of capital. As the investigation goes on, it seems like Pharmally is highly favored, and other anomalies are being uncovered every hearing.

If you often watch the news about it, read the newspapers, or listen to the radio, the most popular names that we can always hear, aside from President Duterte, Secretary Duque, and the Senators, are the name of Chinese businessman Michael Yang, Former PS-DBM U.Sec Christopher Lao, the Pharmally official Lincoln Ong, and many others.

Well, I'm just curious.

Why is it that the Chinese often deal with their fellow Chinese?

To end my curiosity, I bravely asked my Madam who is also pure Chinese by race but is born and raised here in the Philippines as a Filipino. That makes her a Filipino citizen and a Filipino by heart, but still a Chinese in imposing some other culture and traditions. She is also a businesswoman here since she owns a Construction Company here in the National Capital Region. Good thing, she was not offended or anything. She is such a storyteller also since she was a teacher before, hence she loves discussing things no matter how small or broad the topic is.

A little storytime first coming from her. Okay, here it goes...

She currently has a 107 Million Pesos Penthouse Project that is about to be finished in December. Before she won that project from the bidding, she and her company encountered a lot of stress and overtime first before developing the said project. There was also an issue before wherein the architectural firm that is hired by the owner of the project and the other bidder has joined forces to win the project behind the owner's knowledge. They were even copying the quotations that Madam had submitted. When the presentation comes, Madam met the owner and found out that the owner is also a Chinese businessman, one of the considered billionaires here in the Philippines. The Owner or the Chairman to be exact, talk to Madam in Chinese so their conversation would have some privacy. He said, "You know Madam, now that I know you're Chinese, I'm choosing your company. I trust our race more than anyone". Also, Madam seconded this logic to me and confirmed that they trust their fellow race more than other people. They said that they just felt safe if they are dealing with people that have the same DNA as them.

Going back to the PSDBM - DOH - Pharmally issue, I think that's why Yang and Lao have chosen Pharmally to procure face shields and other medical equipment because they trust their fellow race more. It's just their biggest mistake that they didn't do some thorough background checking first before procuring. They could have saved their reputation and there would be no issue of overspending, mismanagement, corruption, et cetera.

But who knows exactly what the truth is when we only know what we can hear on the radio, news we watched from the TV, news coming from newspapers, and the Internet? The Senate hearing is still ongoing up to now, and there are many revelations to be revealed. Who knows if there's a Mafia behind all these or this is all just a misunderstanding? All I know for now was, who are the useful politicians being elected and who is not.

Let's just stay tuned for more news about this controversy. Maybe politics is deeply involved here because elections are drawing near but still, the ones that they are debating there are our money, which is the money we paid in the form of our taxes. Whether we like politics or not, we need to be involved because it is our hard-earned money. It should be spent wisely by the government to provide for our needs and make the Philippines better, not to be pocketed by those corrupt officials.

Welp.

Thanks for being here to read this article up to this point. I do appreciate your effort.

I actually appreciate the fact that the Chinese trusts their own: If it were like this in my country perhaps things would be different from the way they are. We don't even trust each other and always prefers outsiders, especially imported products.

Why's that? We Filipinos are also like that, I guess. Just notice us here on RC and NC. Hahaha.
