The Essential Role Of Money In Luring Out The True Colors Of Your Relatives

If you always read my articles, you might notice that I often say that money can do miracles, especially in the attitudes of your family members towards you. In the past when you were still younger, you were discarded, ignored, always have unfair treatment, but when you grow up and have the stable income to survive living on your own, they suddenly flock towards you as nothing has ever happened. Their attitudes towards you changed drastically like you are their best buddies now.

When they can't suck anything out of you before, you don't have worth in their eyes. You were treated like trash or a stray animal on the streets. Sometimes your pets at home are more valuable to them than you, who come from their blood and flesh. It hurts to be treated that way when you know to yourself that you are worth more than that. Despite their cold treatment, you persevered to excel in your life. Now that you can proudly tell the world that you are useful, they would act in front of you, like you are their savior from being broke and damned but when you're needing them, they were nowhere to be found.

I think most of the families have this kind of illustration. My family, I admit as always, was also like that a lot of times. Like the situation that we are having now. My Gramps has been ill for a long time and he was rescued at his home because he passed out when he was still alive. We can't go to the hospital sooner since his house was three cities away from us. His sisters went there but treated him half-heartedly like he was a burden or something, then they were so impatient to call my Mum over. Even now that my Gramps died, their presence is nowhere to be found. Not even their shadows are there, nor they have sent us their deepest condolences through a phone message or a call. They never did. Instead, they just what time and day will the burial ceremony be held. That's all.

Back when my Gramps was younger and have a stable job as a Security Guard in a factory of whiskey in Bacolod, his sisters would always come to him on his payday. They would insist that they need it for their schooling. They would even list down the foods and all the expenses they spent on their ill mother, then they would make my Gramps pay. They didn't even think that my Gramps also have a family to feed since my mother and our uncle were still kids back then. Almost of my Gramps' wages would be given to them since their mother is ill. That's why my Mum hated them until now because they made them suffer when they were young. They have to work in the field just to get by because the money that my Gramps could give them wasn't enough already.

When he got old and unable to work, he was treated as a burden already. It's more like a fly that will come into their homes, he was indirectly told to go away, showing as if they care but honestly just got irritated by his presence. Now that he is dead, no one has even come to help my mother process the documents and prepare the burial ceremony. They just said that they would come at the last mass for my Gramps burial ceremony, then go back to their homes afterward.

Money can surely bring out people's true personalities. When you have nothing, you will instantly know who is true to you and who is the one that is only after your wealth. Maybe it can change people's treatment to a good one sometimes, but I guess, that's rare.

Just voicing out some sentiments. Thanks for reading!

People show their real face when money was involved. That's for sure. It's sad that those once you helped just abandoned you for the time you needed the most. It's so heartbreaking, they don't think about karma for thier own sake. 🥺

That's why I always hear the saying that when you become an adult and you're looking for a partner, just show them your wallet and you will become attractive. Same as with relatives.

That’s the bitter really friend. It’s a lie that money can’t buy happiness, actually happiness is only through a money and people treat you according to your wealth and position. I also faced the same attitude from my relatives and observed that if you want to live a happy life and want to interact with other then first earn money and get stable. Let’s pray mate, we all have a good life.

I beg to disagree dear, not the Filipino culture but the attitude of individual that causes the problem. Our culture can't do nothing with the traits of each people towards their fellow.

The harsh and sad reality in Filipino culture. Basta may pera, may pamilya. Thank God dahil hindi naman ganyan ang culture samin. Our families are seeing each other once a month and having a simple gathering lang. Like having meryenda and singing in videoke. The objective was to ensure na lahat ng magpipinsan ay magkakakilala at close.
