Hello friends it's been 2-3 days I haven't posted anything about crypto/blockchain technologies. But today we're going to discuss about a very well known blockchain service called 'Ethereum Name System (ENS)'.

So in this article we'll discuss what is ENS how it works and where it comes from. So let's dive in !!

What Is ENS ?

Well if you are reading this article then it means you're on read cash and if you're on read cash then you should know BCH. In order to transfer your BCH in other wallet you need BCH address, do you remember it ? I think you didn't remember it, actually no one can it's really long and difficult to remember.

ENS solves that issue by linking all the information to the one specific, simple and human readable name. ENS system is a service built on Ethereum network which simplifies the complicated things like you can send ETH or other ERC-20 tokens to 'ashma.eth' instead of my ETH wallet address which looks like '829hfjs7480...'

Who Invented ENS ?

The initial development of ENS was lead by the Nick Johnson and Alex Van de Sande of the very well known Ethereum Foundation.

Do You Know ? πŸ’‘πŸ’‘

You can register emojis instead of actual names for which means you can accept ETH or other ERC-20 tokens on πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™.eth

You can register your emoji domain on ethmojis.com

What's Special ?

As I already mentioned that ENS is built on Ethereum network using smart contracts, it's very secure, decentralised and censorship resistant than traditional Internet's Domain Naming Service (DNS) The main team behind ENS thinks that DNS (domains) are the important & fundamental component of Internet which should be open source, decentralised, community driven and Not-for-profit.

Technically ENS can use Ethereum ecosystem which makes it highly programmable and interactive, which means it can be used in dApps developed over Ethereum network.

Future Of ENS

Ethereum Naming System is not just limited to .eth extension it's just a one top level extension, ENS is planning to integrate it with traditional DNS system which will bring more 1000+ high level domain extensions to ENS. Such as instead of 'readcash.eth' they can use 'readcash.org' and integrate it in here !!

So guys this is it, you can register your own ENS domain now using metamask & visit manager.ens.domains

Please guys share your experience how you feel about this article. Your feedback counts !!

Its my first time reading about that ENS, and I do know about Etherium, the wallet address coz I have it, a very long character. But about ENS to make it short, I guess its complicated though I didn't understand it fully😁.

Do you understand domains as they replace complex IP address with easy names like google.com the same way ENS replaces thoda address with easy names. I hope you get some idea from it ?

You mean is that, we can let change our etherium address by doing that in ENS? Instead of that long character , we can make it short by reviving those letters into a short one as you like? Am I right? If that so, maybe I got it, to change your wallet address by the help of that program If I am right.

Yeah you got it, we can link our any wallet address to any ENS domain and use it instead of long and big addresses. Look I'm good in explaining things πŸ˜›

Thanks for that. Do you know how much it costs to get one domain? Depending on how much it costs I might get one.

It costs $5 in ETH

Oh ok. It’s not cheap but maybe for one address it’s worth it!

Yes it is. But if you consider reselling or renting them then it's the best chance

Reselling I understand. Basically you sell it to someone else right? How does renting work?

You can link someone's Eth address to your .eth domain instead of yours. On yearly basis or monthly

If you have your BCH address safely, like you've copied it to clipboard or you have it's screenshot or you've written it down in notes, do I still need ens?

Well sending your addresses to someone might create more vulnerabilities and ENS is not just limited to the address there's more technicalities like Non-Fingible tokens (NFTs). I'll write an article explaining NFTs tomorrow. I'm glad you asked me that @Ashutosh.S

It's interesting that you can add emojis instead of names, it's the first tine i heard about this, plus the fact that your security is sure with this.
