why in 1870 bicycle wheels were larger in size? Larger wheel bicycle speed was about 17 km/h. Therefore larger diameter wheeles were used. In past nearly 1870 larger bicycle wheels were more popular than smaller wheels. Rider legs can't reached to earth rather their legs reach to centre of bicycle wheel. In 19th century bicycles used were containing diameter of 60 inches. Due to dangers of riding there was risk of falling downward. So smaller diameter bicycle replaced the larger diameter bicycles. Smaller diameter bicycles are more popular now a days. There is no risk of falling downward or any other hurt chances.
