By the end of the 26th week of quarantine, new cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the Philippines will continue to pile up, according to data released by the Department of Health (DOH). The deadly virus has now reached 252,964 after reporting 4,040 new infections. This is a relative increase from the single-day new cases reported in recent days, which are usually just over 1,000 to 3,000. The figures alone came from an estimated 2.81 million individuals tested for COVID-19 while only six laboratories failed to submit results today. "There were 23 duplicates that were removed from the total case count. Of these, 9 recovered cases have been removed," the DOH explained in a statement.

"Moreover, there were nine (9) cases that were previously reported as recovered but after final validation, they were deaths." Most of the fresh cases found by the department came from the following areas: National Capital Region (1,813) Cavite (435) Rizal (218) Bulacan (195) Laguna (171)

It is estimated that there are 62,250 remaining "active cases" in the Philippines, after deducting data from those who recovered and died in COVID-19. Another 566 people have been cured of the disease, bringing the number of local recoveries to 186,606. The 4,108 were not fortunate enough to survive the disease after being killed while fighting the pathogen. That's 42 more than yesterday. In all, 899,916 people have been killed by COVID-19 worldwide, according to the latest World Health Organization report. That number is included in the total 27.73 million infections recorded since the disease spread from Wuhan, China.
