Create a Plan and Make a Move: Be a Youth Advocate
The pandemic spread worldwide known as the Covid-19 and many leaders from the different countries want to slow down the virus by trying to put their countries under strict lockdown including here in the Philippines. It has been seven months since the Philippines implemented a lockdown yet we are still stuck on this kind of setting. As a citizen of the country and being a youth, we have the voice to demand for our rights for the community and for the sake of its people. Given our current situation, there is a pressing issue that goes to the surface and it is all about education. DepEd and CHED are both pushing for students to resume the classes this year, not taking into consideration the situation of students, parents and even the teachers. And as for me, I want to call for an Academic Freeze. Access to quality education is one of the tents of our basic human rights, and must be given to every Filipino by our government. That also comes with the materials and the opportunities that will be possible for everyone, regardless of economic background. However, continued neglect in providing opportunities for the marginalized sector made acquisition of education a privilege for a few than an essential right. I want to sign for this petition not just about my personal reasons and not wanting to get back on classes but for all the students that are not capable to access education during this time of downfall, parents that doesn’t have the ability to pay for tuition fees and even for the teachers that are not fond of using technology when it comes to teaching. Not every student has the capability to adopt this kind of set-up due to different factors such as slow internet connection, a gadget to be used, financial issues, and even the ambiance of its surrounding. Both modular and online classes are just a waste of time. We cannot push through with this discriminatory, inaccessible and anti-poor plan.

It would be much better if the local government organization will conduct a move to provide and give assistance for all the sick people, most importantly, the senior citizens. Not all senior citizens are receiving pensions, so in today’s life situation it will be a big help for them and also for their family. And supplying vitamin c and surgical face masks for the people for their safety. In order to lessen the possibility of spreading the virus, the local citizens must be disciplined enough to follow the safety protocols. All persons who disobeyed the order will pay, and the money will serve as a fund for the assistance of foods that are going to be distributed on different barangay. Mental awareness and wellness are also necessary for all of us today so we need to implement recreational activities for the youth. As the youth are really interested in technology, they can join for the different contests such as essay writing, poster making, singing and dancing contests and spoken poetry about their perspective and thoughts about what we are going through right now. By having this kind of activity online, the teenagers are still bringing out their potential and having an interaction with one another. Creating a page for mental health and other news would also be advantageous for all which they can find some words of encouragement in times of giving up. We should not just worry for the physical health, as it is mental health also matters. On the whole, everything has changed in terms of our everyday lives in many aspects. Hence, people don’t have any choice but to accept and face this pandemic to survive. It also provides an opportunity for them to think about what they can improve and how rapidly they can make changes. There will be the time that this will come into the end, all they have to do for now is to seek guidance from above and to be positive. And don’t be afraid to voice out what you desire as long as it is for the sake of all and not just being an echo. Toward of this, having an opinion and implementation during this pandemic reflects that we are ready to help and aiming for changes for the betterment of the community.
