Governments and their authorities around the world continue to excel in their naive struggle against the booming crypto industry. This week, Sweden came up with a baroque proposal to ban crypto mining (next stop China…) and now perhaps our neighboring country Norway is behind the Swedish proposal. Norwegian Minister of Local Government Bjørn Arild Gram has stated: "Although crypto-mining and its underlying technology may represent some potential benefits in the long run, it is difficult to justify the widespread use of renewable energy today." Both countries, together with another Nordic nation, Iceland, have in recent years become popular destinations for crypto mining. As is well known, the Nordic countries have abundant renewable energy resources and have relatively low electricity prices (Sweden has, however, shut down well-functioning nuclear power and in recent years created an enormously much higher electricity price due to imports of dirty electricity from the east). According to Eurostat data for the first half of 2021, Norway offered the cheapest electricity to non-household consumers in the European Economic Area (EEA), with over 90% of its energy from hydropower production
