Gary Gensler is chairman of the SEC has apparently now commented on stablecoins. In an interview with the American newspaper Washington Post, the chairman says that the SEC and CFTC - which is the other American authority that works with cryptocurrencies - are largely well equipped to keep track of the market. However, he believes that there are some loopholes that need to be closed. One of these is the so-called stack coins, cryptocurrencies that track the price of an underlying asset (such as the US dollar). Gary Gensler believes that in the future these may be regulated as investment contracts. This is because he believes that crypto exchanges are a kind of casino where the stack coins can be compared to chips. #stablecoins
