Ideas Are Like Mature Cheese – Why You Should Age Your Ideas These days we're used to the requirement to come up with something on the spot—a viral business idea, an ideal piece of content, or an answer that works just right away. But the reality is the best ideas never quite spring from the immediacy of the moment. Not conceived in the flash of lightning but in the long process, silence, and time to mature. Just as the case with aged cheddar or parmesan cheese aged months or years, an aged idea possesses richness of flavor, sharp rationality, and character that cannot be replicated. You get an idea. It seems so obvious on the surface. But attempt to leave it be, think about it the next day. Add research, get input from others, and let it mellow. A week from today the idea could take a twist, take on a different form, and be something phenomenal. If you have an idea that is still not quite ready to "roll out the door," do not be so quick to declare yourself a failure. You're perhaps in the "maturation" mode. This mode is not obvious on the surface, but profound internal transformations take place. Do not be so quick to criticize a raw thought. It could be a 36-month-old parmesan cheese just waiting to be served.
Mature Cheese cannot be hastened. It is put in a still room, an even-temperated room, and then waited for. Time and process only will ripen its flavor—keen, rich, irreplaceable. The same applies to ideas. Time is necessary for them to commingle, mature, take form. Hurry them and they will be something incomplete—tasteless, immature cheese. If today you're out of sorts, lacking direction, and uninspired—it's not over yet. You might be building depths of flavor toward a grand idea that needs time to mature. Make space. Do not rush.
