Living in the Age of “Too Fast” Something strange seems to happen in our time: everything seems to be racing ahead. Fast food and one-click shopping are here, instant messages show up, and money can fly across countries in mere seconds via blockchain technology. Time is therefore being spent in being fast and somewhere else being put to the slow process of enjoyment. Fast-forwarding is the life we lead, while awareness hits the back burner. The latest news, the latest coin prices, and the latest happening are all being hunted after- but is there a pause to actually ask ourselves: are we actually living, or are we just getting carried with the flow? Cryptocurrency would offer a different lesson here. The volatility of prices within minutes makes individuals restless, anxious, even obsessed. But in this volatility, there lies some pause for thought. Much as blockchain is extremely fast and transparent, patience is still a virtue: patience to wait for confirmations, to control emotions when the market crashes, and to trust the process over the long haul. This seems to be what we need these days: a little equilibrium. We have to slow down in a world that is running too fast in order to remember family, health, curiosity, and dreams that money cannot suffice in buying. In short, technology's job is to make that living easier and more fulfilling, not an accelerator that runs us to the ground.
