Avoiding the Mirror: Reading a Fragment of the Soul *"Hymn and moment, fine to the ear, Two tongues of truth, but why hum off-beat; Run from the mirror, hide from what’s clear, Reality waits… I’m just changing seats."* There are moments when life speaks to us in a sweet voice like a hymn carried by the late afternoon air lulling us into a fragile harmony. Words sound right, events feel beautiful, as if the world itself conspires to create a symphony meant to soothe our ears. Yet beneath the melody lies an uneven rhythm, a faint discord we would rather not notice. Two truths can walk side by side, yet not move in step. Like two singers performing the same song at different tempos, they create a friction that can’t be seen but is deeply felt. And there lies the confusion which one do we follow, and can we admit that sometimes both are true, yet impossible to reconcile? So we turn away from the mirror. For in that mirror there is no music to distract us, no sweet words to mask the truth. There is only our own face, reflecting a reality we don’t want to confront. It feels easier to turn aside, to close our eyes and wait or rather, to delay. But reality never leaves. It waits patiently in the corner of the same room, like a guest who will not depart until we address them. And when we “**change seats**,” we haven’t truly moved anywhere. We’ve only shifted our vantage point, hoping for a different view, while the room remains the same. Perhaps one day, we will stop moving in circles and stand face-to-face with that truth. No more running, no more hiding. For only then will we hear music that is not merely pleasant to the ear, but in harmony with the heart.
