TOPIC: FIRST THINGS FIRST TEXT: John 3:3b "... Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." A very important man- a ruler of the Jews pays Jesus a visit; the timing of the visit is a subject for another day. He came by night, and went straight to business: "We know that thou art a teacher come from God : for no man can do this miracles that thou doest , except God be with Him." This very important personality came to inform Jesus of where him and some of His cliques stood as to the person of Jesus, and to euligise Him. Jesus heard him well and firmly told him: "Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." Someone may be tempted to ask: What has being born again got to do with my affirmations of you? To us, we may say 'nothing' but it meant everything to Jesus. Our spiritual status still means everything to our maker. We are either for Him or against Him. We are either gathering with Him or scattering. Jesus didn't waste time acknowledging Nicodemus' accolades but made him know that if certain things are not in place in our lives, every other thing we try to build will not stand. Being born again is that first thing that every serious minded person should aim at. The goal of this new birth is to raise a people who are conformed to Christ and not the world. I believe that our Lord is passing a message to all and sundry through His response to Nicodemus that, the issue of our spiritual birth should not be trifled with nor delayed . Dear reader, what is your spiritual status? Like Nicodemus, are you paying homage to one you are yet to accept? If Jesus isn't joking with the issue of our place in eternity, neither should we. Being born anew is a door to many possibilities. Your inheritance is firmly sealed in it. I urge you not to rest until you are convinced that you can see the sure evidence of your new birth- a changed life. *"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature : old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."
