TOPIC: BE MINDFUL. TEXT: Acts 3:2- "And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple." He was a certain man; anyone can be that man. Disabled from birth, the people around him found a way to make him less of a liability to them by always carrying him to the temple to fend for himself through the means of begging. He never failed to come with his ugly situation to the temple's gate called "Beautiful" He came everyday, and got everyday result until he met two men who were not everyday men- Peter and John! Two men who knew what it means to have Jesus in them. This man was always at the gate; he knew that the only thing they do in that temple was to go meet with God but it never crossed his mind to ask his daily carriers to take him inside so as to seek the God of the temple for help. Was his mind also disabled? That's a tough question I guess. Solution was so close but he couldn't sense it. In the same vein, a lot of God's children come to church with their heavy burdens in their numbers and go back dragging the burden along even though solution is so close. And so, on this day, he was as usual begging, but glory to God that He was begging the right men. I pray for you that you don't waste your energy and time waiting on and seeking help from people who have nothing to offer you. * "And Peter fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, look on us." That was what he needed at that point : a presence of mind. He was far gone in his business of begging that He felt that, that was all about life. Peter jolted him to reality, a reality that was a stark contrast to his: "Look on us." Come to our reality! "And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them." What God wants from a lot of us is just our attention. We are often too preoccupied with our preconceived ideas of the solution that we fail to see beyond the immediate. Like that man, can God get your attention? If He can get our attention, He will deliver the goods. "And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them..." Did he receive something? Of course, he received a life time encounter, and never went back to begging. God is saying to someone that the answer and solution you run to the ends of the earth for, is very very close to you. I pray that your eyes be opened to see it in Jesus name! Dear God, please help us to be mindful always...
