*DYING LAMPS* 7th February, 2024. 1Samuel 3:2-4- *"And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see: and ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the Lord... that the Lord called Samuel, and he answered. Here am I."* The chapter started with a description of what was happening: the birth of a new order, and the death of the old. Samuel had begun to serve the Lord, while still a child before a man that was going blind. Eli's eyes were dim physically and spiritually. The time of the day was night. Eli was actually in the night time of his life. But just before the lamp went out in the temple, God calls Samuel. One reason why He called him is because He's not in support of the imminent darkness threatening to take over. He checks on the priest; the man had gone soft on his convictions, had stopped cautioning his rebellious sons, and just allowed things to be. God called Samuel! It was a call of love and commitment to His creation. It was God's way of saying, "the light must not go out; the fire must be kept ablaze on the altar. " If Eli can no longer keep the fire burning, he won't be forced to. If he feels he has done enough for the gospel, he won't be coerced to do more. There is someone who has shown some seriousness- a child though... Are you one of those that blazed in yesteryears but now barely crawling to keep pace with God? Are you among those who aren't moved any more by the decadence and dark ess? Know that God isn't crawling, He's moving, and getting things done with the Samuels who answer even when they have no inkling of what's ahead of them. Listen well beloved, God hates it when our light go dim, and our lamps die. We are on a journey that depends heavily on light. The darkness around us has swallowed too many, making them content to grope even in noon day. But that's not you. Rise, and shake yourself from the dust that covered you; the dust of complacency. You must not be the next Eli, who was faithful for many years, but ended badly. Become a Samuel, who keeps the fire burning till old age, because their strength is daily renewed like the eagle's. Become one whose commitment gets better with age..Your heavenly father is ageless... Let us pray: Dear Father of light, reignite my fire. Make me a flame...
