CEO of Indodax, the first Bitcoin trading platform in Indonesia, Oscar Darmawan said Bitcoin is a form of investment, not a legal medium of exchange in Indonesia. Previously, Bank Indonesia stated that Bitcoin and crypto are not payment instruments in Indonesia. Therefore, BI asks the public to only use rupiah as a means of payment. In response to this, Oscar agreed and explained that Indodax presented Bitcoin and crypto as commodities for the people of Indonesia. This means that Bitcoin and crypto assets can be owned, stored and then sold when the price is high, or like an investment asset, "he said in Jakarta, Saturday (27/2). He explained, Bitcoin and crypto assets and their developers have obtained legality from the Indonesian government. All of that is regulated by the Ministry of Trade and BAPPEBTI so that, "Owning Bitcoin and crypto is not against the law," he said. However, Oscar warned Bitcoin and crypto assets not to function as payments. In fact, continued Oscar, the digital money that the government will issue in the form of a central bank digital currency (CBDC) is different in function and use from crypto. The policy for making digital currency will not interfere with the business lines of Bitcoin developers or developers, such as Indodax, "he explained. Oscar said crypto assets have a speculative nature. Even though it is seen as an asset that carries a high risk, Bitcoin and other cryptos also have the potential to provide advantages in trading. "Because the price movements are based on demand supply only. These characteristics are what differentiate digital currency and Bitcoin, there are differences in utility functions," he said. Oscar Darmawan emphasized that his party is in line with the government to establish a digital financial system to increase digital financial literacy and increase the welfare of the Indonesian people.
